WNIS has a full time Military and Family Life Counselor specializing in child and youth issues. She provides short term, non-medical counseling support to military children, service members, family members, and staff. She is available Monday through Friday during school hours. Services are at no cost and confidential with the exception of child abuse, domestic abuse, and other duty to warn situations. The Military and Family Life Counselor can assist with issues such as school adjustment, deployment and separation, reunion adjustment, sibling and parent-child communication, behavioral concerns, and fear, grief and loss. MFLC may provide psycho educational groups, deployment groups, classroom presentations, behavioral interventions, parent or staff consultations, resource/referral information, and special outreach events for Veterans Day or Month of The Military Child. Resources for Military Families at West Navarre Intermediate School
Military & Family Life Counselor Program
West Navarre Intermediate School realizes that changing duty stations can be stressful and offers students transitioning from military duty stations assistance in the form of a Student transition team. The team consists of peer counselors with one of our students serving as the transition team coordinator. This team provides a military peer-support system as well as helping our new military students become familiar with our school during their first couple of weeks at WNIS. Please contact Kim Alexander, WNIS School Counselor, to start the process. **West Navarre Intermediate School reserves at least 5% of open enrollment seat for military students as defined in Section 1002.31, F.S.
WNIS Anchored4Life Program
WNIS has an exciting transition and resiliency program called Anchored4Life. This program develops leadership skills, enhances life skills, builds confidence, and reinforces team building for all youth who attend WNIS. Anchored4Life Team Leaders are students trained to welcome new students to West Navarre Intermediate and set a good example for other WNIS students. Team Leaders provide Welcome backpacks, give school tours, and lead monthly activity groups to develop peer connections, aid in school adjustment and encourage healthy, positive choices from all of the student body. Anchored4Life Kits are distributed for those students who are coping with a geographical military move, military deployment, separation, return from deployment or has a returning wounded military family member. Kits are also available for any student whose family is working through a divorce or lost a loved one. These awesome Kits include situation specific information, a video, a journal and other information for the student to share with the family. For more information call (850) 936-6060.
